Herpes zoster, commonly known as shingles, is a viral infection causing painful skin rashes due to the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus. Achyranthes aspera, a medicinal plant known for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound healing properties, was investigated for its potential use in treating shingles. The present study involves the formulation and evaluation of an herbal ointment containing Achyranthes aspera extract. Phytochemical screening, formulation development, and in vitro evaluation of physical parameters including pH, spread ability, homogeneity, and skin irritation were carried out. The results suggest that the formulated ointment is stable, non-irritant, and potentially beneficial for topical application in the treatment of shingles.
