The rising prevalence of overweight and obesity worldwide has intensified the search for effective dietary strategies to manage weight gain. Chia seeds (Salvia hispanica L.), some nutrient-dense functional food rich in dietary fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and antioxidants, have garnered significant attention for their potential role in weight management. This comprehensive review explores the nutritional composition of chia seeds and examines their physiological effects related to appetite regulation, glycemic control, lipid metabolism, and inflammation reduction. Evidence from animal models and human clinical trials is evaluated to assess the efficacy and safety of chia seed consumption in managing body weight. While findings are generally promising, variability in study design and dosage highlights the need for further research. Incorporating chia seeds into daily diets may offer a natural, accessible approach to support weight control and overall metabolic health.
