Type 5 Diabetes Mellitus is an emerging subtype of diabetes, classified under "secondary diabetes," primarily associated with pancreatic diseases such as pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, and cystic fibrosis. Unlike the classical types Type 1 and Type 2, Type 5 diabetes arises from direct damage to the exocrine and endocrine functions of the pancreas, affecting insulin production and glucose metabolism. This review presents an in-depth overview of the pathophysiology, etiological factors, clinical manifestations, and dietary interventions for managing Type 5 Diabetes Mellitus. Emphasis is placed on the unique challenges this subtype poses and the importance of individualized nutrition plans in conjunction with medical treatment.
